MARKETING EDUCATION COURSE INFORMATION
Students taking any marketing classes should have the opportunity to participate in the DECA organization (student marketing leadership association). DECA-related activities and curricula can be used as an approved part of all marketing classes.

ADVERTISING (10-12) - 08.994

This course provides the student with an understanding of basic advertising principles in relation to promotion and marketing and training for an entry-level job position in the exciting, constantly changing service fields of advertising and display. Competing successfully as a specialist requires competency in human relations, communication, selling, management, mathematics, and budgeting. One should also understand the appropriate and productive use of display space, television, radio, newspaper, digital media, and other forms of promotion. Specific training helps the student create, produce, and accurately evaluate the efficiency of various props, exhibits, and advertising strategies as they relate to an integrated marketing communications program.

CUSTOMER SERVICE (10-12) - 08.0710
Standards and Objectives
The students will gain an understanding of the skills, attitudes, and thinking patterns needed to win customer satisfaction and loyalty. The process includes developing: (1) a heightened awareness of the challenges and opportunities, (2) the tools for dealing with unhappy customers by using the power of customer expectations and by creating loyalty, (3) the ability to lead, expand, and empower the service process, (4) specific skills for professions success, and (5) a clear understanding of the future directions of customer service.

eCOMMERCE MARKETING (10-12) - 08.0802
COURSE 1: INTERNET MARKETING

Students will analyze company sites from a marketing perspective and select one to redesign and develop. They will then have the opportunity to create different forms of multimedia and to learn of options for adding online sales to sites. Students will complete the course with an understanding of target audience and marketing objectives as they relate to online companies.

COURSE 2: INTERNET SALES AND DATABASES

This is a marketing course about Internet sales, service, and technology. Students learn Internet marketing principles and gain experiences setting up online shopping capabilities and database integration. Online customer service and retention, buyer behavior, merchant services, and current Internet commerce issues are presented. Online store experiences are provided through partnerships with Internet-based companies. This course offers concurrent enrollment through Weber State University.

ECONOMICS FOR MARKETING (10-12) - 08.0601
Standards and Objectives
This course focuses on the study of economic problems and the methods by which societies solve them. Characteristics of the market economy of the United States, its function in the world, and methods of applying economics to one’s life will be explored.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP FOR MARKETING (10-12) - 08.0301

This course helps students gain an understanding of the business/marketing principles necessary to start and operate a business. Students will first learn basic economic principles related to business ownership. They will identify and assess common traits and skills found in entrepreneurs, explore business opportunities, and compare the risks and rewards of owning a business. The primary focus of the course is to help students understand the process of analyzing a business opportunity, determining feasibility of an idea utilizing research, developing a plan to organize and promote the business and its products/services, and finally, to understand the capital required, the return on investment desired, and the potential for profit. Entrepreneurship is designed for students enrolled in marketing, business, and upper-level courses who have an interest in developing the skills, attitudes, and knowledge necessary for successful entrepreneurs. The texts and performance objectives are designed to work in conjunction with DECA and FBLA, and students are encouraged to participate in these associations and their respective competitions.

FASHION MERCHANDISING A (10-12) - 08.0101

The Fashion Merchandising course is an introductory course that teaches the concepts of entry-level business and fashion fundamentals. Fashion Merchandising prepares the student with the fundamentals of basic fashion and business concepts: textile fibers and yarns, garment styles and parts, retail merchandise categories, designing and producing apparel, retail business fundamentals, and fashion promotion.

FASHION MERCHANDISING B (10-12) - 08.0101

The Fashion Merchandising course is an introductory course that teaches the concepts of entry-level business and fashion fundamentals. The student in Fashion Merchandising B will learn about the fundamentals of elements and principles of design, color theory, wardrobing, fashion marketing, basic fashion and business concepts, size categories, and caring for clothing.

FASHION MERCHANDISING ADVANCED (11-12) - 08.0199
Standards and Objectives
The Fashion Merchandising Advanced course is designed to provide the serious fashion student with knowledge of the various business functions in the fashion industry. Students in fashion merchandising will gain a working knowledge of promotion, textiles, merchandising math, selling, visual merchandising, and career opportunities.

FINANCIAL SERVICES MARKETING, (10-12) - 08.0401
The Financial Services Marketing course prepares individuals to perform marketing tasks specifically applicable to banks, credit unions and other financial institutions.

INSURANCE MARKETING, (10-12) - 08.1001
The Insurance Marketing course prepares individuals to perform marketing tasks specifically applicable to the insurance industry.

INTERNATIONAL MARKETING (10-12) - 08.7999

The International Marketing course is an introductory course that teaches the concepts of entry-level marketing/business functions in an international marketing environment. Students in International Marketing will learn about marketing and business fundamentals, selling, financing, product/service planning, information management, buying, distribution, pricing, promotion, risk management, economics, communications, marketing math, and marketing operations.

INTRODUCTION TO REAL ESTATE (10-12) - 08.1701

Students will be introduced to real estate basics that include the scope of the real estate business, usage of land, land description, ownership, contracts, deeds, mortgages, title search and closes, liens, financing sources, the appraisal process, investments in real estate, and the sales and marketing process. Students will broach real estate marketing and sales through ethics, human, employee, and customer relations, use of product knowledge, and use of advertising and the media. Exposure to real estate terminology, forms, and contracts is an integral part of this class.

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT (10-12) - 08.0602
The Junior Achieve course provides hands-on instruction that uses the marketing techniques to show students how to run a business simulation.

LEADERSHIP MANAGEMENT A & B (10-12) - 08.0211
Standards and Objectives
Students will understand the concepts of leadership and the supervisory roles, planning, decision-making, group and organizational dynamics, and functions in an organization. This class teaches how to be an effective leader. Concepts of goal setting, motivation, time management, and other interpersonal skills are taught. Classmates with these skills could become very effective within the student leadership organizations in the high schools. Students may be eligible to receive three (3) credits of concurrent enrollment at a local college if the student completes both semester A and B courses. Dixie State College has presently approved this course.

LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES (11-12) - 08.0211

This course is recommended for students who are elected student body or class officers, organization or club presidents/officers, or are considering running for one of these offices. Student leaders have great ambitions and enthusiasm for the school and student body – but this alone does not create success. This class teaches how to be an “effective leader.” Concepts of goal setting, motivation, team building, time management, conflict resolution, dealing with stress, and much more are discussed. Students may be eligible to receive three (3) credits of concurrent enrollment at Utah Valley State College.

The student in Marketing will learn about marketing education/DECA, discovering marketing, assessing his/her role as an employee, examining career opportunities in marketing, obtaining interpersonal skills needed in marketing, determining communication fundamentals, and matching himself/herself with career opportunities.

Marketing Advanced is an in-depth course for the career-minded student with emphasis in the following areas: marketing and business fundamentals, business management, information management, human relations, product/service planning, finance, distribution, purchasing, pricing, promotion, and selling.

PROMOTION (11-12) - 08.9904
Standards and Objectives
This course provides the student with an understanding of the dynamic nature of the promotional field—or, for a student who plans on making a career in advertising, promotions or another aspect of marketing. It also provides a contemporary view of the role and importance of marketing communications. This course emphasizes the importance of integrated marketing communications concepts in enhancing the unity of brands, and provides thorough coverage of all aspects of an IMC program such as advertising, promotions, packaging and branding strategies, point-of-purchase communications, marketing-oriented public relations, and event- and-cause-oriented sponsorships.

The Travel and Tourism course provides the student with an understanding of one of the largest industries in the world. Specific applications include the evolution of the tourism industry, destination geography, airlines, international travel, travel by rail, car rentals, cruising, hospitality industry, tours, meetings, and marketing and sales.
