Standards and Objectives
The CTE Introduction core course is an integrated
exploratory program. The purpose is to allow students to be involved
in activity-centered lessons which explore careers, utilize technology,
and develop beginning skills. The course introduces students to career
exploration and selection processes and provides information regarding
additional courses and training related to the students’ career
fields of interest. The applied technology areas of agriculture, business,
family and consumer sciences, health science and health technology, information
technology, marketing, economics, and technology educational re explored.
The overall goals of CTE Introduction focus on 1) Self-Knowledge, 2)
Education and Occupation Exploration, and 3) Career Planning.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES, INTRODUCTION TO (10-12) - 51.0810
This semester course provides students with
advanced emergency medical information and skills. The course introduces
students to a variety
of career options in emergency medicine.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (12) - 51.0904
An instructional program that prepares
individuals to perform initial medical diagnosis, treatment, and comprehensive
care in medical crises,
under the general supervision of a coordinating physician. Includes instruction
in all aspects of basic health care; disease, disorder, and injury symptomology
and diagnosis; emergency medical treatment procedures for various injuries
and disease outbreaks; basic pharmacology; anesthetics; intravenous and
other drug administration procedures; obstetrics procedures; basic surgical
techniques; emergency medical equipment operation and maintenance; special
care of patients exposed to heat, cold, radiation, or contagious disease;
and administrative aspects of emergency medicine. Programs may include
emergency vehicle operation and patient transportation procedures, depending
on level of training.
EXERCISE SCIENCE/SPORTS MEDICINE (11-12) - 51.0913
Standards and Objectives
This full-year course is designed to teach
students components of exercise science/sports medicine; including exploration
of therapeutic
careers,
medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, first aid, injury prevention
principles, the healing process, rehabilitation techniques, therapeutic
modalities, sport nutrition, sport psychology and performance enhancement
philosophies.
HEALTH SCIENCE-ADVANCED (11-12) - 51.1199
This course is for students who have decided
to pursue a career in healthcare which requires a minimum of an associate’s
degree. This course may articulate with a post-secondary institution
and provide
concurrent
enrollment college credit for the students. Curricula may include Health
Occupations Professional Essentials, Technology Enhanced Anatomy/Physiology,
Case Studies, Health Seminar Practicum, or other curricula that provides
students with an advanced experience in the health science field.
HEALTH

Standards
and Objectives
This semester course is designed to create
an awareness of career possibilities inhealth care and inform students
of the education options available
for health science and health technology programs. Instruction includes
beginning anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, medical ethics,
diseases and disorders. The course prepares students for the Medical
Anatomy and Physiology course and/or for a variety of health technology
programs.
MEDICAL
ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY

Standards and Objectives
This full-year course provides students with an in-depth study of
health care careers including actual clinical experience in a
variety of areas.
Instruction includes intermediate anatomy & physiology, medical
terminology, diseases and disorders, medical ethics and first aid.
The class is designed
to prepare students for the Advanced Health Science course and/or
for a variety of health technology programs.

by providing assistance during patient examinations, treatment administration
and monitoring; by keeping patient and related health record information;

MEDICAL OFFICE ADMINISTRATIVE

An instructional program that prepares individuals to perform routine
clerical and reception duties in patient care and within a health care
facility. Includes instruction in receiving and directing patients, transcribing
medical records, medical records management, preparation of forms, appointment
scheduling, client billing/collections and insurance.
MEDICAL ENGLISH (11-12) -

An instructional program that prepares students with communication
skills related to health care. The course integrates medical-physiological
concepts
and language arts. The course focuses on technical writing, research,
medical terminology, and charting.
MEDICAL MATH (11-12) - 51.9999
An instructional program that prepares students with skills to compute
mathematical equations related to health care. The course integrates
medical-physiological concepts and mathematics.
MEDICAL RECORDS TECHNICIAN
(11-12) - 51.0707
An instructional program that prepares individuals to classify medical
information and prepare records, under the supervision of a medical
records administrator. Includes instruction in medical records science,
medical
terminology, record classification, user needs, indexing, special records
systems, computer operation, and applicable laws and regulations.
MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY (9-12)

Standards and Objectives
Medical Terminology is a one-semester course that help students understand
the Greek- and Latin-based language of medicine and healthcare. Emphasis
is placed upon word roots, suffixes, prefixes, abbreviations, symbols,
anatomical terms, and terms associated with movement of the human body.
This course also stresses the proper pronunciation, spelling, and usage
of medical terminology. This class is helpful to anyone considering going
into the healthcare field.
MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION (11-12)

An instructional program that prepares individuals to execute verbatim
medical minutes, reports and orders. Includes instruction in dictation,
analysis of written notes or visual evidence, computer and transcription
machine operation, format medical correspondence and report formats
and requirements, and applicable laws and regulations.
NURSE ASSISTANT (CNA) (11-12)

nursing-related services to patients in hospitals or long-term care facilities,
under the training and supervision of a registered nurse or licensed
practical nurse.
OPTICAL TECHNICIAN (12) -

or ophthalmologists providing diagnostic, treatment and dispensing
services. Includes instruction in vision testing, corneal measurement,
color screening,
patient counseling, eye wear fitting and modification, and office administration
duties.
PHARMACY TECHNICIAN (12) -

An instructional program that prepares individuals to support pharmacists
by providing assistance during patient consultation, counter dispensing
operations, and prescription preparation; keeping patient and related
health record information; and by performing a wide range of practice-related
duties for both retail and hospital-based pharmacies.
SURGICAL TECHNICIAN (12) -

An instructional program that prepares individuals to perform general
technical support tasks in the operating room before, during and after
surgery. Includes instruction in pre-operation patient and surgical
team preparation, handling surgical instruments at table side, supply
inventory
maintenance before and during operations, sterilization and cleaning
of equipment, maintaining clean and sealed environments, operating
room safety procedures, and record-keeping.
