Iowa Tests

This site provides information about the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS). It is a nationally standardized, norm-referenced achievement test designed to measure students’ achievement in the areas of reading, language arts, mathematics, science and social studies at grades K-8.
This standardized test is administered in order to evaluate the achievement of Utah students in relation to the achievement of students across the United States.

The Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS) is linked by a continuous score scale and provides a comprehensive measure of important educational objectives and critical thinking skills.

The ITBS is administered annually to Utah students, at the beginning of the school year, to students in grades three, five, and eight. The analysis of the test results allows the comparison of Utah student achievement to the achievement of students who attend schools throughout the United States.

Also, the ITBS Grade 3 Reading subtest is administered in the spring to be a part of the overall assessment process in measuring their reading on grade level.
