The Utah State Office of Education (USOE) created the Kindergarten Assessment for two primary reasons:

  1. To provide Local Education Agencies (LEAs) with an assessment for reporting the success of their Optional Extended-Day Kindergarten (OEK) programs.
  2. To meet the request from the Utah State Legislature asking for accountability regarding the results of the OEK programs.

Kindergarten Assessment was designed as a pre and post OEK assessment, assessing the knowledge, skills, and abilities that are developmental and age appropriate concepts for young children entering and exiting Kindergarten in Utah. USOE Kindergarten Assessment is aligned to the current Utah English Language Arts (ELAs) and Mathematics Core Standards.
