Principals serve as instructional leaders
and, according to Rick DuFour, as Lead Learners in their schools. Lead Learners must know how to recognize and develop leadership among their teachers. The Elementary Principals Mathematics and Science Leadership Academy (EPMSLA) is a workshop that helps principals understand the content, pedagogy, and process behind developing leaders in mathematics and science.
After five sessions, principals meet the expectations of three Utah Educational Leadership Standards in terms of mathematics and science. Specifically, principals will meet standards in Visionary Leadership (Standard 1), Teaching and Learning (Standard 2), and Management for Learning (Standard 3).
